Clothing. Seems like a no brainer. For some it's a way of life. Expressing how one feels in one of the most individualistic ways (if you ask me) that seems to keep on changing, everyday.
For a girl like me, from the Midwest, clothing has always taken a backseat to things such as: farming, football and family. It doesn't matter, doesn't require thought or planning , no effort, just simple, easy living. I have never been this way.
Since I could remember I subconciously wanted to stand out, be a leader not a follower. I even realized at a young age that I got excited about putting clothes on. I always wanted to match, because I just felt like it looked better. I would go to soccer practice when I was little and see girls wearing orange socks, with purple shorts and a red shirt, and would think, "Wouldn't it be easier if they just matched"? Not a typical thought for a kid who never knew what fashion was.
Ok, Ok so I grew up in Omaha, Nebraska. I know, not exactly this middle of nowhere, but still, not exactly the fashion capitol of the world either. Times have changed. With the city growing at a rapid rate, so is more and more people's knowledge of trends, and style are coming into play.
So, Im not trying to bad mouth where I grew up. But I guess to say that the whole city has style amensia, and that some still don't know the difference between a legging, and tight or romper from jumpsuit, isn't that far fetched. Trust me some people call it a jomper? Wow, really? What the hell is that?
Still, when I get glares and under the breath comments from passerbys, I can safely say people need to jump into the 21st century. Head first.
For this exact reason is why I moved to San Diego, not even a week ago. I wanted to live somewhere where my style and individualistic expression was appreciated, admired, and praised even. Tattoos? Who cares? Piercings, who doesn't have em'? It's not weird, or unusual, it's a way of life. It's my new life.
This is the me I have always wanted to be. And now I have the opportunity to show people that fashion is more than clothing, shoes, bags, jewerly, a selling tool to make more money through magazines, and movies it's an expression.
I'm commintted to fully stepping up my game, and observing the "trendies" (that's what i'm calling them) of the Diego area. Hoping to make some friends along the way, I will document my favorite fashionistas, and take you on my journey.
Can't wait to read all about your experiences. CMonj
